Ruben Guthrie - Film Review
Ruben Guthrie (Patrick Brammall) is a successful advertising executive engaged to a beautiful foreign model and living the high life in Sydney. That high life consists of alcohol fuelled days and nights where blackouts are common and leaping from the roof of your apartment into the pool seems like a good idea. It’s after one such leap goes badly that Ruben’s girlfriend (Abby Lee) leaves him with a broken arm and a challenge: if he can go without alcohol for a year, she will be willing to see him again.

Small groups that study the Bible can utilise an array of resources and one terrific place to bookmark is here online at Westminster Faith Debates.
What's that?

Small group resources - Exploring Life’s Big Questions
Small group material that deals with topical common questions about faith are like reality TCV shows: there’s a lot of them out there and most of them are rubbish!
Finding material written by terrific and trusted authors that get to the heart of issues without being bogged down is much harder. So that’s why the new SPCK series Little Books of Guidance are so valuable. There are four in the series so far.

Read MorePartisan - film review
When film makers make a pitch to the studio executives, old clichés are often used to describe what the intended film will be like: “It’s a coming of age tale set in a utopian community where a young man begins to suspect the leader is not a paragon of virtue.” Partisan could have been pitched that way., but it takes this idea and spins it on its head...

Read MoreMaking church cool?
Relevance is seen as a dirty word in some circles. But what gives life in our parishes?
Whilst I am resistant to any thinking that suggests we don't need to think about change or retuning our telling of the gospel for today's ears and eyes, I was struck by this quote from this article..
"At church, I do not want to be entertained. I do not want to be the target of anyone’s marketing. I want to be asked to participate in the life of an ancient-future community.”
Ex Machina - How human are you?
Alex Garland is an accomplished novelist, scriptwriter and with Ex Machina he turns his attention to direction. He did the script too, so let’s assume he’s a bit of a show off. Fortunately he’s done a terrific job with both roles in this film out now.
