Letting Mark Live! ... a seminar on the Gospel of Mark Year B

  • St Mark’s Anglican Church 7-17 Main Street, Buderim Queensland Australia

A seminar with The Rev’d Dr Alan Cadwallader

The Gospel according to Mark has always puzzled careful readers. It seems to focus on keeping Jesus’ works and miracles secret, on Jesus’ failure to convince his opponents, and on the weaknesses of his disciples.
The Revised Common Lectionary uses the Gospel According to Mark as the basis for the Sunday Gospel readings in year B. As an opportunity for preachers and laity alike this seminar will provide excellent preparation for the year ahead.

Mark’s Gospel is a gospel meant to be performed, with all the excitement and dangers that accompany the enfleshing of a text. The Gospel has for too long been shackled into sacred precincts when it originally was designed to be “out there” – in more ways than one. From sound-mapping to a recognition of the limits of the text, Mark’s gospel can be a means of restoring the viscosity and embodiment of, in and beyond the text!

The Rev’d Dr Alan Cadwallader teaches New Testament at the Australian Catholic University in Canberra. He writes and speaks regularly on issues of social justice, spirituality and Christian belief. He is married and finds frequent delight and new ideas in the surprises four growing children bring to family life.

He is the author of many articles on topics as diverse as, Atheism as a Christian Responsibility, and When a Woman is a Dog: Ancient and Modern Ethology.
