A Voice in the Wilderness

January 10, 2019

A Portrait of Australia With Important Bits Missing' by the Reverend Glenn Loughrey

Fiona Hammond

Those gathered at the 2017 National Constitutional Convention made a statement from the heart which begins: ‘Our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander tribes were the first sovereign Nations of the Australian continent and its adjacent island, and possessed it under our own laws and customs…’

ABM has produced an 8-part Study Guide designed to explore themes arising from the Statement from the Heart. This stunning book will provide inspiration for reflection and is a deeply engaging and important contribution to the life of an Australian church and the wider context.

Glenn Loughrey’s images are mesmerizing and serve to draw the reader to investigate the diverse source  material - from official government reports, to contemporary song writing, to Indigenous poetry and reflection. This course is suitable for individuals or groups, and there are several ways to interact with the material. Art, Stories, Quotes, Scripture, Questions and a Prayer provide the structure for each session and there are additional resources at the end of each part for those who wish to ‘go deeper’.

It is available as an online pdf with active internet links: download it at here but if you can order hard copies, you’ll love the visually sumptuous images and the art gallery production quality. Consider it for a Lenten study and let this extraordinary resource be a voice in the wilderness for you and your group.
